Background
Veridian is a purpose built cruise technology business focused on supporting the unique operational, regulatory, and asset management needs of global cruise operators.
The business has deep maritime roots. Its origins trace back to SpecTec, a Norwegian maritime software company founded in the 1980s and acquired by Omegro in 2012. As the wider SpecTec business evolved, it became clear that the cruise sector required a dedicated focus, distinct from commercial shipping and other maritime segments.
The concept for a standalone, cruise focused business originated with Roddy MacLennan, then VP of Sales for EMEA and the US at SpecTec. Recognizing that cruise operators faced fundamentally different asset lifecycles, compliance obligations, and operational complexity, Roddy championed the creation of a business purpose built for the cruise industry.
This led to the formation of Veridian, which operated successfully as a distinct cruise focused organization for several years. During this period, the business invested not only in product and customer relationships, but also in building internal leadership capability.
In 2018, Malcolm Youngson joined Veridian as Client Services Director. From the outset, Malcolm engaged in active career conversations with the business unit leadership, clearly articulating his ambition to take on broader responsibility and continue developing as a leader within the organization. Those discussions translated into targeted development opportunities, including participation in Omegro’s leadership program -creating a structured pathway toward increased scope and accountability.
"I started with Veridian in 2018 and I was client services director at that time. I started having career conversations with the business unit leader at that point about my ambitions to go on and further my career. So that then translated into doing the leadership program." - Malcolm Youngson, CEO of Veridian
Today, Veridian is led by CEO Malcolm Youngson and operates as a dedicated cruise technology business within the wider SpecTec Group, serving operators managing complex global fleets over multi decade asset lifecycles.
Platform overview
Veridian’s core product, AMOS (Asset Management Operating System), is purpose built for the marine environment and designed to support the full operational lifecycle of a vessel.
Within the cruise industry, AMOS is widely regarded as the standard for managing:
- Maintenance and engineering
- Procurement and inventory
- Quality, safety, and compliance
- Fleet wide data consistency and visibility
The platform supports cruise operators at every stage of vessel operation, enabling structured workflows, reliable data, and informed decision making across distributed fleets. Decades of domain specific refinement allow operators to balance safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and cost control at scale.
Omegro partnership and long term stability
While Veridian specializes in cruise operations, its long term stability is underpinned by its place within the Omegro portfolio.
Omegro’s acquisition of SpecTec in 2012 provided the business with the financial strength and long term ownership model required to support customers making mission critical software investments spanning decades. For cruise operators, whose vessels may remain in service for 25 years or more, vendor longevity and continuity are critical.
Backed by a stable, well capitalized parent company, Veridian customers gain confidence that their systems will be supported for the full lifetime of their vessels, not just the duration of a typical investment cycle.
“Longevity is very important for people who are selling their company. If they have built up a business, having the confidence that the business is genuinely going to be here for the long term is just as important as the sale price." - Kealan Curran, Group Leader, Omegro
Product evolution and sustainable growth
With access to Omegro’s benchmarking data and best practice frameworks, Veridian leadership is able to make investment decisions informed by deep insight into both customer outcomes and long term product value.
Veridian’s multi year product roadmap focuses on evolving the proven AMOS platform into modern, web based and mobile enabled environments through the development of AMOS X. This next generation maintains the structured workflows cruise operators depend on while delivering improved usability, performance, and data accessibility.
Across Omegro, proposed initiatives are evaluated through a long term sustainability lens- prioritizing resilience, durability, and lifecycle value over short term growth acceleration. At the same time, a strong culture of autonomy ensures Veridian’s leadership team retains control over day to day operations and strategic direction.
Developing leaders and talent
As Veridian continues to operate at a high level of maturity, leadership focus has increasingly shifted toward long term strategy, product evolution, and collaboration across the wider Omegro portfolio.
Within Omegro, businesses benefit from a permanent home, leadership continuity, and access to shared expertise -while employees gain meaningful career pathways. Individuals are encouraged to deepen their domain knowledge, expand their experience across roles or portfolio companies, and build lasting careers within the group.
